Buckontupence is owned by Trackmate's owner Barry Preece and has been racing in Ireland where he has winning point to point form over 3m at Inchydoney.

He finished 2nd at 9/2 at Market Rasen on 13 March 2016 with William Featherstone aboard and after getting outpaced stayed on again to get up for second and he followed this with another good run at the same track when 3rd at 100/30 on 21 April.

He returned after his summer break at Huntingdon on 2 October 2016 which was a 3m 1f 10yd Handicap Hurdle with Ben Poste aboard and he finished an excellent 2nd at 6/1. He ran at Towcester on 16 March 2017 and he finished 5th at 14/1 under James Nixon and he returned to Towcester on 22 May 2017 on what was his chase debut and he never travelled eventually being pulled up at 8/1 under Liam Treadwell.

He was unseated at the last flight when making his challenge at Fakenham on 4 June.

He returned to action at Stratford on 4 July which was a 2m 6f 7yd Handicap Hurdle and was pulled up having raced prominently for most of the race and being pulled up before the last flight when all chance had gone.

He ran at Worcester on 27 July 2017 which was a 2m 7f Amateur Riders' Handicap Hurdle and he veered righthanded at the hurdle and made a bad mistake which caused Emma Yardley's saddle slipped giving her no chance of staying on board.
